Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, proceeded, yesterday, with the symbolic handing over of a total of 15 parking spaces to the Grand Baie Business Park (GBBP), during an event held in the vicinity of the GBBP.

The Parliamentary Private Secretary, Dr Anjiv Ramdhany, the Chairman of the GBBP, Mr David Ridgeway, and other personalities were present. The project, constructed to the tune of around Rs 2.6 million, aims to alleviate traffic flow in the northern region.

The provision of a pedestrian crossing near the newly constructed parking has also been made. In a statement, Minister Hurreeram pointed out that during the implementation of La Croisette/Grand Baie link road project, the GBBP facilitated the construction works by providing additional spaces to the Ministry.

“Thus,” he said, “an extent of 211 metres square of land was to be exchanged with the GBBP,” adding that in view to fulfil the agreement with GBBP, a plot of land belonging to the National Property Fund Ltd was identified for the construction of the 15 parking spaces.

As for Dr Ramdhany, he indicated that the project added to the modernising of the landscape of the northern region while ensuring the safety of road users. He also spoke of other priority projects such as drains and roundabouts.

Mr Ridgeway, for his part, extended his thanks to the Ministry for the effective works carried out for the parking spaces, thereby contributing to improving the infrastructure of the region.
