Africa-Press – Mauritius. The selected athletes for the weightlifting sports discipline for the forthcoming Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) 2023, to be held in Madagascar from 25 August to 03 September, were presented, yesterday, at the Pointe Jérôme National Outdoor Education and Recreation Centre in Mahebourg.

Present on the occasion, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, stated that weightlifters have been placed for a one-month residential training at the Pointe Jérôme Centre so that they can train in the most favourable conditions.

The Minister expressed satisfaction as regard the ongoing preparations for the 11th IOIG and expressed confidence in the Mauritian athletes’ abilities It is recalled that Mauritius won 22 gold medals in the weightlifting sports discipline in the IOIG 2019. The selected atheletes are:

Male – Willem Emile, Antonin Brousse de Gersigny, Kenzie Tayer, Gaël Martinson, Dinesh Pandoo, Nigel Augustine, Dorian Madanamoothoo, Cédric Coret, Khelwin Juboo and Anthony Madanamoothoo.

Female – Sheridiane Pasnin, Anne Volbert, Maëva Matelot, Doushka Gopaloodoo, Seforah Lent, Ketty Lent, Gwenaëlle Castel, Anastajie Babet, Alison Sunee, and Anaik Fidèle.
