J-50 for CJSOI Games 2022: Countdown officially launched

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The 50 days countdown for the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) Games to be held from 04 to 11 December 2022, was officially launched, this evening, by the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Stephan Toussaint, during a ceremony held at La City Trianon.

An initiative of the Organising Committee of the CJSOI Games 2022 in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, the countdown aims to promote the 2022 Games which brings together athletes aged between 14 and 17 years from Mauritius, Comoros, Djibouti, Madagascar, Mayotte, Réunion Island and the Seychelles.

It also aims at mobilising the population about the regional sporting event. Athletes will compete in sports disciplines including athletics, futsal, swimming, pétanque, triathlon, boxing, table tennis, weightlifting, tennis, yachting, and beach handball.

Several activities were on the agenda comprising the launching of the mobile application of the Ministry entitled ZENS and the clip of the official song, ‘C’est la fête’.

The Team Mauritius comprising athletes and captains along with the mascot of the Games, Joy, were presented to the public. The presentation of the flag bearer and the Captains was also on the programme.

The flag bearer is Jean Kelwin Faron; the Captain for Boys is Speville Ronaldino Stellio; and the Captain for Girls is Seforah Lent. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Toussaint expressed enthusiasm with regard to the holding of the sporting event in the country.

He pointed out that there will be free access for the public at all sites. With the preparations on their final stretch, he called upon everyone to gear up efforts for the organisation of the regional sporting event.

To this end, the Sports Minister invited the population to support the Mauritian Team and to follow all updates on the facebook page of the Ministry and the newly launched application, ZENS.

CJSOI Games The CJSOI Games were introduced in 1994 by the Ministerial Committee of the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien. It is a major regional sporting event involving the participation of best athletes from neighbouring countries.

The main objective of the Games, organised every two years, is to enable youth to participate in international sporting events as well as promote cultural exchanges amongst the member islands/countries of the Indian Ocean. The Games will further help promote friendship between the youth of Member States and foster regional cooperation as well as a sporting culture.
