Africa-Press – Mauritius. The newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Mauritius, Mr Masahiro Kan, presented, today, his Letter of Credence to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, at the State House in Réduit.

In a statement following the meeting, the Ambassador stated that Japan and Mauritius are both committed to strengthening their bilateral relations. He highlighted the shared importance both nations place on improving this diplomatic connection.

Ambassador Kan revealed Japan’s eager collaboration with Mauritius in shaping their relationship soon. He also indicated that he conveyed the message of the Emperor of Japan to President Roopun and described the meeting as fruitful and helpful.

Additionally, the Japanese Ambassador underlined his mission of further promoting the relationship between Japan and Mauritius and voiced optimism with regards to the cooperation in general.

Prior to his meeting with the President, Ambassador Kan paid a courtesy call to the Secretaryfor Foreign Affairs, Mr Joyker Nayeck, for the presentation of the Copie d’Usage.

About the Ambassador Mr Masahiro Kan joined the Ministry of Finance (MOF) of Japan in 1980 and held various positions in Budget, Tax, Securities, and International Finance Bureaus.

From 1996 to 1999, he worked as Head of the Tax Reform Assistance Office for the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris and, in 1999, he became Director at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Director for the International Finance Bureau and Customs and Tariff Bureau, MOF.

Between 2006 and 2007, he served as Executive Director of the Treasury Department, Deposit Insurance Corporation. After returning to the MOF as a Counselor in 2007, he became a Professor at the School of Public Policy Studies, Hokkaido University, and has served as a Research Fellow at Hokkaido University while he worked for the AfDB and studied at Columbia University.

Furthermore, the Ambassador has served as the Executive Director for Japan at the World Bank Group and as Executive Director at the African Development Bank (AfDB), representing Japan, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Austria and Argentina.
