Laporta Faces New Storm as Barcelona's Debts Resurface

Africa-Press – Mauritius. FC Barcelona’s financial situation remains alarming despite Joan Laporta’s multiple rescue measures in recent years. Even after selling off major assets, the club continues to struggle under La Liga’s strict Financial Fair Play rules.

The latest financial report revealed a €17 million post-tax loss for the previous season. During a recent meeting with members, the Catalan giants disclosed that they still owe large sums to several European clubs — €13 million to Manchester City for Ferran Torres and €10 million to Bayern Munich for Robert Lewandowski, among others.

The debt list doesn’t end there. Barcelona must also pay €34 million to RB Leipzig for Dani Olmo, split between short- and long-term payments, and €17 million to Athletico Paranaense for Vitor Roque. In total, the club owes €159 million for transfer installments yet to be completed.

Even French clubs are awaiting their share: €359,000 is due to Bordeaux and €80,000 to amateur side La Brède FC for Jules Koundé’s training rights, while Rennes expects €32,000 from the Raphinha deal with Leeds United, which itself still awaits €42 million. For Joan Laporta and his management team, the challenge is clear — stabilize finances quickly or risk further scrutiny from La Liga and UEFA.
