Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Batimarais Learning Corner was inaugurated, yesterday, at the Sub Hall of Batimarais, during an official ceremony organised by the National Empowerment Foundation (NEF), in collaboration with the Savanne District Council.
The Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo; the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal; the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Dr Ismaël Muhammad Rawoo; and other personalities were present on the occasion.
In her address, Minister Jeewa-Daureeawoo indicated that this Learning Corner will be of great assistance to the children of the region as it will provide them with a safe space to engage in their educational activities.
She further stated that technological facilities such as computers with Wi-Fi connection, provided by the NEF, will be put at their disposal. The Minister also enumerated the various facilities made available to children of beneficiary families by NEF, and stressed that education is the gateway to a better future.
Furthermore, Minister Jeewa-Daureeawoo emphasised that Government is actively working to ensure that education is accessible to all and that one of Government’s objectives is that no child is left behind in terms of academic achievement due to financial constraints.
On that note, the Minister appealed to the parents present to encourage their children to pursue their education and support them in their endeavours. Learning Corner
The Learning Corner, set up in 2014 by NEF, provides centres across the island with infrastructures such as computers, books, a library, tables, and chairs so as to offer beneficiaries interesting experiences to practice, enrich and, improve their learning skills.
It equally complements the main programme of the NEF as regards assistance to improve the educational level of the beneficiaries, as well as provide a place of interaction and a sense of unity within the community.
The Batimarais Learning Corner adds to the list of 13 Learning Corners in operation across the country. The premises accommodating the Batimarais Learning Corner were allocated by the Batimarais Village Council and the Savanne District Council. Renovation works, carried out by NEF, amount to some Rs 420,000.
