Liberia FA Launches 2025 FIFA MA Elite Referees Course

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Liberia Football Association on Thursday, 8 May, kicked off the 2025 FIFA MA Elite Referees Course for elite referees at the headquarters of the LFA in Congo Town.

The Course which is being organized by the LFA under the auspices of FIFA is being attended by 30 referees from Montserrado, Margibi, Nimba and Bong counties. The objective of the course is to enhance the knowledge, fitness, consistency, and overall performance of elite-level referees within the Member Association, aligning their skills with international standards and prepare them for high-level competitions.

The course is being conducted by FIFA Instructors Ali Mohammed Ahmed of Somalia (Technical Instructor) and Bento Thomas Navasse of Mozambique (Fitness Instructor), who are being assisted by local instructors, including Isaac T.Z. Montgomery (Technical) and Abraham A. Fahnbulleh (Fitness).

Inaugurating the five-day course, LFA President Mustapha Raji reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to developing football at all levels, in alignment with the visions of FIFA and CAF. He expressed gratitude to FIFA for its continued support in referee development, emphasizing the critical role referees play in maintaining the integrity of the game.

“We must uphold the highest standards of integrity in our leagues, professionally manage every match, regardless of the competition, and adhere to strong ethics and professionalism,” President Raji stated.

For his part, Instructor Ali Ahmed thanked the LFA for the warm reception and expressed optimism about the referees’ performance during the fitness component of the course. However, he urged them to remain focused as they prepare for high-level competitions.

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Youth and Sports Minister G. Andy Quamie, Chairman of the LFA Referees Committee Judge Joseph M. Kollie, and President of the Liberia Football Referees Association Lamine Kamara.
