Africa-Press – Mauritius. The logo for the 12th edition of the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien 2022 (CJSOI) to be held in Mauritius from 04 to 11 December 2022, was unveiled, in presence of the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, yesterday, evening at the Côte D’Or National Sports Complex.

The logo has been designed by Mr Dhylan Lukea, who was awarded a cheque of Rs 25 000. The members of the Organising Committee of the CJSOI 2022 were also presented on the occasion.

In address, Minister Toussaint underlined that the CJSOI is a major international sporting event involving the participation of best athletes from Mauritius, Comoros, Djibouti, Madagascar, Mayotte, Réunion Island and the Seychelles.

The athletes, he indicated, will compete in eleven sporting disciplines namely athletics, futsal, swimming, pétangue, triathlon, boxing, table tennis, weight lifting, tennis, sailing, and beach handball.

The Sports Minister called for the sponsorship of the private sector and for their usual collaboration to make the CJSOI 2022 a major success in Mauritius. The Games, he said, will help promote friendship between the youth of Member States and foster regional cooperation as well as a sporting culture.

The President of the CJSOI and Minister of Youth, Sports and Family of the Republic of Seychelles, Mrs Marie-Céline Zialor, who intervened through videoconferencing, stated that the unveiling of the logo marks an important step in the preparation of the CJSOI.

She indicated that the holding of the Games had been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which according to her, has enabled the athletes to better prepare themselves for the Games.

She urged all Member States to put in more effort in raising the standards of the Games so as to better prepare the young athletes in view of the CJSOI 2022 as well as for other games held regionally and internationally.

It is recalled that the last Games were held in 2018 in Djibouti and Mauritius was ranked first with ten gold medals. About the CJSOI
