Africa-Press – Mauritius. At a press conference held Monday morning at the Sun Trust Building, the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) expressed concern over what it described as a “rise in insecurity across the country.”

“The State must be able to guarantee every Mauritian a genuine sense of safety,” the party declared, lamenting that fear is gradually taking hold in daily life. MSM representatives stressed that this is not a political issue but a matter of public security that affects all Mauritian citizens.

Maneesh Gobin cited several recent incidents that, according to him, have shocked public opinion: a theft in Trou-aux-Biches, a violent assault at Jeetoo Hospital, street clashes, and parking disputes that escalated into physical altercations, among others.

Interestingly, the MSM member—who had often criticized the media while in power—now praised both traditional and online outlets for their accurate reporting of the recent wave of violent events, acknowledging their role in raising awareness about the growing insecurity.

The Attorney General also urged that national authorities and institutions be adequately equipped, both in manpower and logistical resources, to restore public safety and rebuild citizens’ confidence in law enforcement and justice institutions.
