The collaboration in the higher education sector was at the fore of discussions, this morning, in Phoenix, between the Vice-Prime Minister (VPM), Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, and the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of the Republic of Angola, Dr Maria do Rosário Bragança.
Minister Bragança is at the head of the Angolan delegation currently on an official visit to Mauritius from 03 to 05 May 2023. In a statement, Minister Bragança highlighted that this first meeting with VPM Dookun-Luchoomun was cordial and was an opportunity to exchange about higher education, science, technology, and innovation.
According to her, it was also an occasion for VPM Dookun-Luchoomun and herself to discuss about common challenges faced in this sector. Speaking about a Cooperation Agreement currently being drafted, Minister Bragança underlined that Angola has already sent proposals to the Mauritian Government, and same are currently being discussed.
The Agreement, she stated, might be signed in Angola in the near future. Furthermore, Dr Bragança observed that, during its stay in Mauritius, the Angolan delegation will have the opportunity to know more about the local higher education system in terms of planning, financing, and quality assurance.
Visits to some universities and polytechnic institutes, amongst others, are also on the agenda, she added. It is recalled that Dr Maria do Rosário Bragança was appointed Angola’s Minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation in 2017.
She holds a PhD in medicine, genetics specialty, from Universidade de Lisboa and Gulbenkian Institute of Science. She is the recipient of several awards and has published numerous papers.
