Africa-Press – Mauritius. Mauritius broke, this morning, the Guinness World Record of the World Largest Human Image of a Waving Flag at the Anjalay Stadium in Belle Vue Harel. As such, the Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister for Rodrigues, Outer Islands and Territorial Integrity, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, was presented with the certificate of the Guinness World Record of the World Largest Human Image of a Waving Flag by the representative of the Guinness World Record, Mr Patel.
The country set this new record with a total of 6,145 participants after having met a series of strict guidelines set by the Guinness World Records. Most of these participants were mostly students from some 170 secondary schools. The previous record was set by India in August 2022 with a total of 5,885 participants.
The Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, and various other personalities were present during this landmark event which was organised by the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology and the Special Mobile Force, in the context of the 55th Anniversary of the Independence and 31st Anniversary of the Republic of Mauritius.
The logo for the National Day Celebrations 2023 was also unveiled by Prime Minister Jugnauth on this occasion. In a statement, the Prime Minister rejoiced that the country has successfully attained its goal in breaking the Guinness World Record of the World Largest Human Image of a Waving Flag.
He lauded the contribution of all the young participants, and emphasised that their participation to this national event demonstrates their strong sense of discipline as well as their love, devotion and patriotism for Mauritius.
This exercise, observed the Prime Minister, plays a key role in enhancing the spirit of brotherhood in the country and demonstrates the spirit of togetherness.
Moreover, Mr Jugnauth underlined that this event is a good way to kickstart the celebrations to mark the 55th Anniversary of the Independence and 31st Anniversary of the Republic of Mauritius.
He remarked that these celebrations are an opportune moment to show our unity and national cohesion whilst serving in consolidating nation-building across the population.
