Mauritius celebrates another centenarian, Mr Dewlall Khadun

Africa-Press – Mauritius. Mr Dewlall Khadun, born on 25 November 1925, celebrated his 100th birthday, yesterday, at the Oazis Hall in New Grove in presence of family members and close friends.

To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity presented to Mr Khadun a cheque of Rs 26,203, a grill, a bouquet of flower, the centenarian medal and a certificate. He also received a handsfree telephone. Additionally, the National Solidarity Fund offered a cheque of Rs 10,000 to the centenarian. The Senior Citizens Council expressed their best wishes to Mr Khadun with a gift set.

Born in Pamplemousses, Mr Khadun never attended school. He worked as a labourer at Mon Desert Mon Tresor Sugar Estate and later became a Sirdar on the same estate in Deux Bras. He married in a religious ceremony in 1949 and later formalised the union with a civil marriage in 1978. He is the father of eight children, the grandfather of eight, and the great-grandfather of one child.

Mr Khadun liked singing when he was young. He eats vegetarian and non-vegetarian food but prefers fish. He enjoys a good health but has vision as well as hearing problems and walks with help of a walking stick. He likes to watch television but most of all he loves gardening. In his free time, he would also make furniture for the house.

The centenarian dedicates his longevity to his healthy and disciplined lifestyle, the good care of his children and to his faith in God.
