Africa-Press – Mauritius. The longstanding bilateral relations and the strategic partnership between Mauritius and Japan was at the gist of the speech of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mauritius, Mr Kan Masahiro, at a reception hosted in Floreal to mark the Japanese National Day and the celebration of the 66th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.
The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Dharam Gokhool; the Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Jean Robert Yvan Hungley; the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Paul Raymond Bérenger; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Dhananjay Ramful; Ministers; Members of the National Assembly; Members of the Diplomatic Corps; and other eminent personalities also attended the reception.
In his address, Ambassador Kan dwelt on key developments of the previous year namely the opening of the Mauritian embassy in Tokyo and Mauritius’ participation in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development and the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025. He reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Mauritius in enhancing maritime security, strengthening educational, scientific and cultural exchanges as well as fostering people-to-people ties.
He emphasised that Japan remains a key development partner for Mauritius in disaster reduction and has provided technical expertise for the establishment of a Coastal Surveillance Radar System, aimed at enhancing regional stability and maritime safety in the Indian Ocean region. He further noted that Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency has extended its technical assistance and training in the blue economy, sharing knowledge and expertise to support sustainable ocean-based development.
The Ambassador also underscored the shared commitment of both countries to further strengthen bilateral relations, explore new areas of cooperation and collaborate toward the achievement of a peaceful and sustainable future. Japan, he reiterated, will contribute to Government Vision 2050 to drive sustainable and inclusive growth in the country.
