The reduction in the parcel handling fee from Rs130 to Rs40, with home delivery options based on the parcel size, set to take effect as from October 1, 2023 is part of a|series of transformative initiatives by the Mauritius Post Ltd, as announced by the Minister of Information Technology, Communication, and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin during a press conference held on September 29, 2023, at Sicom Tower, Ebène.

In the presence of the CEO of Mauritius Post Ltd, Mr Vijaye Anand Ramchurn, Ministry officials and representatives of the Mauritius Post Ltd, Minister Balgobin detailed a comprehensive 10-year strategic plan aiming to revitalise the Mauritius Post.

The plan focuses on four fundamental pillars: a thorough examination of e-commerce marketing, operational re-engineering, financial enhancements, and human resource development.

These strategic measures are expected to yield short-term, medium-term, and long-term benefits, ultimately transforming Mauritius Post into a profitable company while providing enhanced services to the public.

The Minister also highlighted the ongoing digitalisation and modernisation efforts at the Mauritius Post Ltd, which includes the establishment of an e-commerce Unit for revenue enhancement.

It will also be followed by the launching of a mobile application in the near future which will help in tracking parcels and letters. In addition, the imminent opening of a new warehouse in Pailles reinforces the commitment to modernisation and improved service delivery.

Moreover, Mr Balgobin announced an extension of the Post Office closing time to 3:30 PM to accommodate the public’s postal transactions. The implementation of machine cards in Post Offices will facilitate card payments and enhance the convenience of services offered. He emphasised on the evolution from traditional to modernised post in the country.

With regard to marking the forthcoming World Post Day which will be celebrated on October 9, 2023, activities will include the unveiling of a first-day cover dedicated to commemorating extinct Mauritian fauna, the formal inauguration of a new Post Office in Rivière Noire, launching of a mobile van service at Route Bassin, Quatre Bornes and the introduction of metro cards, henceforth available at all Mauritius Post Offices.

In addition, certificates will be conferred to approximately 150 employees who have pursued a number of courses in collaboration with the Civil Service College.

Mauritius Post Ltd has been operational since 1772 during the French colonial period. It has successfully expanded into further 114 Post Offices across the country, five in Rodrigues and one in Agalega.
