Africa-Press – Mauritius. The 9th edition of the Jeux de la Francophonie will be held from 28 July to 06 August 2023 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Kinshasa. Mauritius as a member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF) will be sending a delegation of around eight participants to represent the country in athletics and in the cultural segment.
In this context, a ceremony was organised on Friday 21 July 2023, in Côte-d’Or, to present the captain of the boys’ and girls’ team and the flag bearer of the Mauritian delegation.
The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, and other personalities were present on the occasion. The Games take place every four years to provide an opportunity for young French-speaking artists and athletes active in the cultural and sporting spheres to meet.
This year’s edition will be held under the banner “Solidarity, Diversity and Excellence” to further advance the IOF’s project to develop and foster social cohesion, economic development, and innovation among the youth. The last Games, held in 2017 in Abidjan,Côte d’Ivoire, saw the participation of some 4,000 athletes and artists from 49 IOF countries.
