The Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr. Alan Ganoo, effected a site visit at Place d’Armes in Port Louis, this afternoon, in context of the construction works that will kickstart as from tomorrow, 06 October 2021.

Construction works will be undertaken at Place d’Armes, during two weeks, as from 20 00 hrs to 05 00 hrs by Transinvest Construction Ltd. Some Rs 5.1 million will be disbursed for this project.

In a statement, Minister Ganoo underlined that the construction works are being undertaken in the context of the Metro Express Project. He stressed that the works will improve road networks for the convenience of road users.

He further pointed out that the aim is to increase traffic fluidity in this area, following the various ongoing road construction works, including those at Le Pouce Bridge and the Waterfront Platform, amongst others.

The Minister indicated that during the construction works, the traffic will be diverted and the concerned road users will have to take either the alternate routes of the Caudan Roundabout or the Decaen Flyover.

He announced that three lanes will be constructed, namely one dedicated to traffic incoming to Port-louis and the other two in direction to the north. Other construction works include the widening of the road, he added.

As for the Chief Executive Office of Metro Express Ltd, Dr Das Mootanah, he stated that all ancillary road infrastructure in sites where the Metro Express project will be operational will be enhanced.

He also underlined that the works to be undertaken will help increase traffic fluidity during construction works for the Metro Express Project, and once the project is operational. Furthermore, he said that a Traffic Master Plan was elaborated for traffic improvement in Quatre Bornes, as well as in Curepipe, and Floréal.
