Africa-Press – Mauritius. Astek Mauritius marked its 20 years in business at L’Aventure du Sucre, Pamplemousses, on 13 October 2023, in the presence of the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin.

In his address, the Minister lauded the dedication and commitment of Astek Mauritius for its successful completion of 20 years. According to him, this celebration scores the outright perseverance, innovation and engagement of the organisation towards excellence.

Mr Balgobin underlined that Astek Mauritius has become a key driver in the field of Trusted Internet Connections (TICs) and commended its evolution over the past 20 years.

He remarked that the company not only provides technology consulting and develops innovative software solutions for local businesses but also invests in their research and development.

Astek Mauritius, actively participates in industry association working groups, such as OTAM, thereby contributing to the sharing of knowledge, the promotion of innovation, and, most importantly, the adoption of a common and coordinated approach to advancing the industry as a whole, he added.

He stated that the creation of innovative solutions is the driving force behind the success of Astek Mauritius and he looks forward to seeing the incredible possibilities that the future holds for Astek Mauritius.

Highlighting the endeavours of the Government to strenghthen the ICT foundations, Minister Balgobin outlined the significant strides made in connectivity: the country is fully connected to optical fibres, 5G connectivity is available in various areas and mobile infiltration has reached 160%.

He also spoke of the implementation of the Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Act of 2021 enacted to better safeguard the interests of the citizens and local businesses.

Moreover he affirmed that this law aligns with the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime and the Malabo Convention on Cybersecurity and the Protection of Personal Data.

He recalled that Mauritius is currently ranked first in Africa and 17th in the world on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) 2020 Global Cybersecurity Index.

Minister Balgobin asserted that the Mauritius Emerging Technologies Council, operating under the aegis of the Ministry plays a pivotal role in shaping the digital landscape of the country.

He declared that in today’s business world, the adoption of Artificial Intelligence as a technology is no longer an alternative but a necessity in almost every industry.

He announced that the Ministry, in collaboration with the Mauritius Emerging Technologies Council and other stakeholders, is undertaking a reflection on the development of guidelines for a secure and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence.
