Minister Bholah announces activities for International Day of Cooperatives 2023

In the context of the International Day of Cooperatives, to be officially celebrated, on Saturday 01 July 2023, the Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Mr Soomilduth Bholah, announced, a series of activities planned for the event, during a press conference held, yesterday, at the seat of the Ministry in Port Louis.

The theme chosen for this year is Cooperatives: partners for accelerated sustainable development Minister Bholah highlighted that the aim of marking the International Day of Cooperatives is to recognise the contribution of Cooperatives in the socio-economic development of the country.

He pointed out that the first activity is scheduled on 29 June 2023 with a wreath laying ceremony organised by the Ministry at Les Jardins de la Compagnie in Port Louis.

He further indicated that the official ceremony will be held on Saturday, 1st July 2023, in Réduit with the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun as the Chief Guest.

Several activities including cultural shows, sketches, and musical performance are on the agenda. Different Cooperative Societies across the country, he emphasised, will display their products on that occasion.

Service providers, such as the Development Bank of Mauritius and the National Cooperative College will moreover provide information on facilities available. Minister Bholah invited all Cooperative Societies to attend the official celebration.

He seized the opportunity to highlight the significant contribution of Cooperatives to advance the sustainable development goals while promoting social and economic inclusion. It is recalled that around 1,200 Cooperative Societies and 14 Federations are registered in Mauritius.
