Africa-Press – Mauritius. A site visit was conducted by the Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Mr Soomilduth Bholah, yesterday, at RivieĢre du Poste, at Fresh Water Prawns (Mauritius) Ltd, an SME Mauritius Ltd-registered company engaged in aquaculture and breeding of shrimps, prawns and seafood.
The Minister deemed aquaculture as a promising emerging sector in Mauritius and called upon local entrepreneurs to tap into the business opportunities available in the field. During the site visit, the Minister took stock of the different stages of breeding, raising, and harvesting of the freshwater aquatic species.
In a statement after the site visit, Minister Bholah congratulated Fresh Water Prawns (Mauritius) Ltd for engaging in aquaculture and for having successfully developed a complex technology to undertake its operations.
He pointed out that an investment of Rs 20 million was made by the owners of the company and that being registered at SME Mauritius Ltd, the company benefitted from various support schemes.
Mr Soomilduth Bholah further lauded their intent to expand the scope of operations as well as their endeavour to introduce the production of new species.
