Minister Callichurn chairs Tripartite Technical Meeting for Salary Compensation 2024

Africa-Press – Mauritius. A Tripartite Technical Meeting regarding the salary compensation for the year 2024 was held, today, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Labour, Human Resource Development and Training, Mr Soodesh Satkam Callichurn, in Port-Louis.

Officers of the Ministry and those of Statistics Mauritius as well as representatives of Business Mauritius and trade unionists attended the meeting. Interviewed after the meeting, Minister Callichurn highlighted that this exercise was purely technical and consisted of discussions and questions between the stakeholders present to be considered in determining the compensation rate.

He also informed that as per Statistics Mauritius, the inflation rate forecast for this year stands at 7.1%. This figure, the Minister underlined, is based on the final Consumer Price Index for January to August 2023, and an estimate for October to December 2023.

Furthermore, the Minister averred that a meeting will be held with the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning, and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, on Thursday 07 December 2023 to work out the compensation rate for the year 2024.

Minister Callichurn, moreover, indicated that on Friday 01 December 2023, the Minimum Wage was reviewed to Rs 15 000, stressing that alongside the monthly Contribution Sociale Généralisée (CSG) allowance of Rs 2 000, the Guaranteed Minimum Wage will stand at Rs 17 000.

On this note, he accentuated that those benefitting from the Minimum Wage will equally benefit from the salary compensation. Mr Callichurn further upholded that Government will fully support vulnerable enterprises in case they have any difficulty to pay the salary compensation of their employees.
