Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Mr Alan Ganoo, effected a site visit, this morning, at the new Mini Traffic Centre in Constance. The aim was to take stock of the progress of works achieved so far.

The Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin; the Minister of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, Mr Sudheer Maudhoo; and other personalities were also present.

In a statement, Minister Ganoo highlighted that the project, to the tune of some Rs 22 million, is expected to be completed in the months to come, together with the New Flacq Teaching Hospital.

According to him, the Mini Traffic Centre was a necessity due to the expected growth in traffic in the vicinity with the forthcoming opening of the new hospital. Minister Ganoo observed that works are being carried out in collaboration with actors of the private sector who provided the land for same.

He stated that a re-routing exercise will be carried out by the National Land Transport Authority so that buses from various regions converge to the traffic centre to ease access to the new hospital for patients.

He also pointed out that his Ministry and other stakeholders are taking all necessary measures so as to provide better service and facilities not only to the inhabitants of the region but also to all patients who will receive treatment at the New Flacq Teaching Hospital.

As for Minister Balgobin, he underlined that the New Flacq Teaching Hospital, as well as the Mini Traffic Centre, are only two examples of the numerous modernisation projects under way across the country.

He, moreover, stressed that works for the Mini Traffic Centre have been carried out in record time, and that the road in the vicinity is also expected to be widened.

For his part, Minister Maudhoo underscored that the Mini Traffic Centre offers all amenities required to match the services which will be offered by the state-of-the-art hospital currently under construction a few metres away.

He also remarked that works are expected to be completed within the earmarked timeframe. The Mini Traffic Centre, upon completion, will consist of a holding area for some 10 buses, a slip lane, a two-metre-wide footpath, drains, street lighting, toilet blocks, a green space, and a food court, amongst others.
