Minister Jagutpal launches Health Promotion Campaign for inhabitants of Quatre-Bornes

Africa-Press – Mauritius. A Health Promotion Campaign for the inhabitants of Quatre-Bornes, organised conjointly by the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the National Insurance Company, kickstarted this morning at the Municipal Council of Quatre Bornes.

The one-day event is offering free screening for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) , and raising awareness on preventive measures and related medical treatments.

The Health Promotion Campaign was launched by the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Kailesh Jagutpal, in presence of other eminent personalities including, the Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Mr.

Kavydass Ramano and Parliamentary Private Secretary, Mrs. Tania Diolle. The Health Promotion Campaign is the fourth one being organised as of the Healthy Nation campaign launched in 2022. In his address, the Health Minister, Dr.

Kailesh Jagutpal, underpinned the continuous efforts being made by the Government to sensitise the population on the need to take necessary precautions and measures to reduce the risks of suffering from NCDs.

He recalled that the Prime Minister, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, is a staunch advocate of healthy and physically active lifestyle and joined him in his conviction that a good health is the most precious asset in life.

The Minister dwelt on the significant upgrade that Government has undertaken to improve the delivery and quality of health services in public health institutions, along with enhanced and increase of health infrastructure, expansion of medical treatments and improvement of health personnel through trainings.

He however, called for the need of adopting a healthy lifestyle to firstly avoid suffering from diseases thus reducing any need and dependence on medical treatments, and to also reduce oversaturation of the public health system.

According to Minister Jagutpal, it is essential for everyone to take the necessary preventive measures such as daily exercise and consumption of healthy products, so that they grow and age in good health.

He urged all the inhabitants that will be sensitised during the health campaign to cascade down the health advices obtained to their family members. As for the Environment Minister, Mr.

Kavydass Ramano, he reiterated Government’s priority of safeguarding the good health of the population, for which he said, various sports infrastructure have been made accessible across the Island.

The Minister also spoke of his Ministries’ initiatives to ensure that the population thrives in a safe and healthy environment through measures targeting air pollution and the adverse impacts of climate change.

On that score, Minister Ramano announced that an Air Quality Indexing System, that will provide a report on the quality of air in specific regions will be operational as from March this year.

On her part, PPS Diolle lauded the initiative that brought free medical screening services at the doorstep of the inhabitants and thus urged the inhabitants of Quatre-Bornes to avail of the free services as well as the health advice being offered by Health Professionals. She encouraged the sensitised inhabitants to become ambassadors of healthy lifestyle and to share their acquired knowledge to the community at large.
