Minister Koonjoo-Shah and new British High Commissioner discuss avenues of cooperation

Africa-PressMauritius. The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Mauritius, Mrs Charlotte Anik Rachel Pierre, paid a courtesy call, today, to the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Kalpana Devi Koonjoo-Shah, at Newton Tower in Port Louis.

In a statement following the meeting, Minister Koonjoo-Shah expressed satisfaction, following her meeting with the British High Commissioner, whereby avenues of collaboration were discussed. She indicated that emphasis was laid on women entrepreneur, child protection and on exchange of ideas and best practices between the two countries.

For her part, the High Commissioner highlighted that she had an excellent meeting with Minister Koonjoo-Shah, where discussions focussed on a range of issues and potential areas of collaboration.

Mrs Charlotte Pierre also commended the Minister for her efforts to put gender at the heart of all policies in Mauritius, and to deliver real structural change for women.

This change, she added, is in line with the British Government’s vision for women. It is recalled that Mrs Charlotte Pierre presented her Letter of Credence to the President of the Republic of Mauritius on 17 August 2021.

She has served from 2019, as the Deputy Director, West Africa Department, Africa Directorate, at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. In 2019, she also occupied the post of Acting Director, Middle East and North Africa, at the Department for International Development.
