Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of International Cooperation and Promotion of Public-Private Partnership of the Republic of Congo, Mr Denis Christel Sassou N’Guesso, paid a courtesy call, today, on the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.

In a statement after the meeting, Minister N’Guesso stated that he is on a working visit to Mauritius adding that since his arrival, he has had a working session with the Attorney General, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Maneesh Gobin.

He recalled that Mauritius and the Republic of Congo have signed in 2010 a general cooperation agreement followed by several other agreements. He further stated that in 2011, five agreements were signed between the two countries which have not been very fruitful.

Hence the need, he said, to decide on their future orientation. Minister N’Guesso highlighted that four agreements between Mauritius and the Republic of Congo will soon be signed adding that two more in the fields of health and tertiary education are in the pipeline.

Speaking about the cordial discussions he had with Prime Minister Jugnauth, he pointed out that they also focused on the next meeting of the joint committee which will be held in the Republic of Congo during the first semester of 2024.

Furthermore, he informed the Prime Minister that the Republic of Congo will organise, from 26 to 28 October 2023, the Summit of the Three Bassins, which will be held in Brazaville.

The objectives of the Summit, he recalled, are to promote scientific and technical cooperation, strengthen capacities, and increase influence in multilateral forums for environmental advocacy; establish effective global governance to manage environmental and climate challenges on a planetary scale; and develop a common strategy to stimulate investment projects aimed at combating climate change and preserving biodiversity.

Mr Denis Christel Sassou N’Guesso is the son of President of Congo-Brazzaville, Mr Denis Sassou N’Guesso . He was administrator-general of Cotrade and was subsequently appointed deputy director-general of the National Petroleum Company of the Congo (Société nationale des pétroles du Congo, SNPC) in December 2010. He was elected to the National Assembly of Congo-Brazzaville in 2012.
