The Chairman of the Rivière du Rempart District Council, Mr Soobiraj Ellayah, and Village Councilors were also present. The primary objective of the visit was to closely monitor and evaluate the progress of several ongoing projects that hold significant importance for the local community.
The site visit is deemed instrumental in ensuring that these vital projects are on track. The Ministers and their teams paid particular attention to the construction of a mini soccer pitch at Morcellement Saint Antoine and Royal Road, Goodlands, in proximity to the Doorgachurn Hurry Government School.
Additionally, they took note of the development of a bus layby in front of MP Sharma Jugdambi State Secondary School and the extension of Reservoir Road, which connects Roche Terre to Goodlands.
In a statement, Minister Teeluck said that the site visit was initiated with the objective of conducting a comprehensive assessment of ongoing projects in Constituency No. 6.
He emphasized the significance of these endeavors, recalling a recent site visit for the upcoming new market place in Goodlands, which is poised to become a central hub for Goodlands and Poudre d’Or Village.
Minister Teeluck highlighted several other impending projects, including sports facilities, road developments, and various development ventures. Notably, the focal points for these upcoming developments are the villages of Goodlands and Roche Terre.
The primary goal is to alleviate traffic congestion in the area and improve accessibility for the local population, he added. He also unveiled phase two of the Reservoir Road project in Roche Terre, aimed at enhancing traffic flow by connecting the road to Goodlands.
According to the Minister, many projects initiated some few years ago are on the brink of completion and will soon benefit citizens. Dr. Ramdhany, in his remarks, underscored the importance of collaboration with the District Council to facilitate the smooth progress of these development projects.
He mentioned that upon the announcement of Budget 2023, they promptly sought financial clearance from the National Development Unit (NDU) for the construction of five roads. The Reservoir Road project has already been completed, and three more roads are scheduled for asphalt and delivery in the near future.
This development will greatly benefit the residents of Roche Terre, Grand Gaube, Melville Calodyne, and Goodlands, as the newly asphalted road will connect Roche Terre to Grand Gaube and Goodlands, said the Minister.
He laid special emphasis on the construction of two mini soccer pitches in Goodlands, which will not only provide the youth with local recreational facilities but also help deter them from the temptations of drugs.
He underlined the overarching vision to engage the youth in sports and discourage drug use. Dr. Ramdhany also announced the imminent completion of a new bus layby at Jugdambi Road, catering to the needs of Goodlands’ 21 000 residents by providing them with improved and decent bus shelters.
For his part, PPS Dhunnoo emphasized that the projects undertaken by the NDU and the District Council reflect Government’s unwavering commitment to keeping its promises and improving infrastructure and services.
He announced that the inauguration of the mini soccer pitch in St-Antoine is scheduled in two weeks. He pointed out that their underlying goal is to modernize the villages, recognizing the importance of rural area development for the well-being of the local residents.
As for Mr. Ellayah, he expressed his appreciation to the NDU, which allocated Rs 13 million for road asphalting in the region. He commended the ongoing work and the effective collaboration between the NDU and the District Council, highlighting the positive impact these efforts will have on the villagers’ quality of life.
He averred that since 2014, numerous projects have been successfully completed and stressed that the forthcoming developments will provide recreational opportunities for the inhabitants, allowing them to enjoy their leisure time and fostering a sense of community well-being.
