Africa-Press – Mauritius. The new boat of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation was unveiled, on Saturday 25 June 2022, at the Pointe Jerome National Outdoor Education and Recreation Centre, in the presence of the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, and the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Stephan Toussaint.
The two-engine boat, acquired to the tune of some Rs 3.9 million, bears the emblem of the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) and the name of the parent Ministry.
In a statement, Mr Toussaint affirmed that the objective of such an acquisition was to support the endeavours of the Ministry to organise and promote nautical events like kayaking, surfing and sailing for young people.
He underlined that the boat would also help to ensure safety at sea for those participating in nautical activities organised both for sports and leisure purposes in the various recreational centres.
According to Mr Toussaint, the watercraft would be of service to the different departments falling under the aegis of the Ministry such as the Mauritius Sports Council, and the Mauritius Recreational Council.
He added that the new vessel would operate, too, as a safety boat, during the sailing event at the 12th edition of the CJSOI Games, scheduled in Mauritius from 4 to 11 December 2022.
