The Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) held an award ceremony for 264 trainees who completed various National Certificate levels and Diplomas. Minister of Education Dr. Mahend Gungapersad praised their dedication and the support of their families, emphasizing the importance of skills training in reducing youth unemployment and contributing to economic growth.

A total of 264 trainees of the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD), who successfully completed their National Certificate levels 3, 4, 5, as well as the National Diploma, received their certificates, this morning, during an award ceremony held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Moka. The two-day ceremony will honour some 1,000 trainees.

Present on the occasion, the Minister of Education and Human Resource, Dr Mahend Gungapersad, congratulated the awardees for their dedication, commitment and hard work during their learning journey, commending their choice to sharpen and develop their skills. He underpinned the equally important supportive role of their families, who made sacrifices to accompany them throughout their endeavours.

Minister Gungapersad moreover encouraged the awardees to perform to the best of their abilities and to serve as proud ambassadors of the knowledge and skills they acquired at the MITD during their careers.

The Minister commended the MITD for its dedication and continuous efforts in bridging skills gaps by offering modules that integrate learning with the workplace, thus reducing youth unemployment. “The institution also supports economic growth and productivity by contributing to promising sectors and provides adaptability in the digital age,” emphasised Dr Gungapersad.

He likewise affirmed that the Ministry recognises the MITD’s excellent work in providing skills development and training to youths, enabling them to contribute to the nation building process. Besides, the Minister underlined the assistance of friendly countries, including India and France, in strengthening and enhancing the delivery of the institute’s courses.

About the MITD

The MITD has a network of 20 training centres strategically located around the island, including one in Rodrigues. It offers both pre-employment and continuous training programmes and also serves as an awarding body.

The institution provides a unique portfolio of some 110 Award courses and 90 Non-Award courses in the fields of Automotive Engineering & Related Trades, Civil Engineering, Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Tourism, Hospitality & Leisure, Beauty Therapy & Hair Dressing, Business Administration, Information & Communication Technology, Printing, Textile & Apparel, Health Care and Professional Driving.

The MITD offers training through various modes, including full-time, part-time, and apprenticeship programmes, catering to a wide range of learners such as school leavers, in-service workers, the unemployed, vulnerable groups, and international students.
