Africa-Press – Mauritius. Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has admitted for the first time that his relationship with former Liverpool teammate Sadio Mané was not always smooth, revealing there was tension between the two during their time together at Anfield. However, he was quick to emphasize that both players maintained professionalism throughout.
In a candid interview, Salah stated:
“Yes, there was tension with Sadio. Mind you, we were professional until the end; I don’t think it affected the team. It’s human to want more, I understand that; he’s a competitor. Off the pitch, we weren’t very close, but we always respected each other.”
The pair formed one of the most lethal attacking trios in Europe alongside Roberto Firmino, helping Liverpool win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and other major honors. Despite their on-field chemistry, speculation about a frosty relationship off the pitch had long circulated.
Salah addressed the rumors directly:
“It’s true that me and Sadio Mané didn’t get along, but we always remained professional. We barely spoke to each other outside the pitch, but we treated each other with respect. For the people who claim that Liverpool suffered because of it, I tell them I am the player who gave the most assists to Sadio Mané.”
Salah’s remarks shed light on the competitive nature at the highest level of football, where personal differences can exist but are often set aside in pursuit of collective success. Despite their differences, Salah and Mané’s contributions helped define a golden era for Liverpool under Jürgen Klopp.
