Africa-Press – Mauritius. Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is set for crucial talks with Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan next week in a bid to prevent another club-versus-country standoff ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Pharaohs are scheduled to begin their pre-tournament training camp in early December, with a warm-up friendly against Nigeria at the Cairo International Stadium during the week commencing December 8.

However, the timing of Egypt’s preparations clashes with key fixtures for Liverpool, who face Inter Milan away in the UEFA Champions League and host Brighton in the Premier League that same week.

Sources close to the player indicate that Salah, who remains central to both club and country, would prefer to feature in those competitive matches for Liverpool before linking up with Egypt for the AFCON.

The 32-year-old’s potential late arrival could reopen old wounds between Liverpool and the Egyptian FA, who have clashed in the past over Salah’s international commitments.

Coach Hossam Hassan, appointed earlier this year, is keen to avoid any friction and is expected to meet Salah to find a compromise that satisfies both parties — ensuring Egypt have their captain in peak condition while respecting Liverpool’s schedule.

Egypt will be chasing an eighth continental crown when the Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Morocco in December 2025 – January 2026.
