Moroccan Football Legend Ahmed Moujahid Dies

Africa-Press – Mauritius. Moroccan football is in mourning following the death of Ahmed Moujahid, winner of the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco.

Moujahid passed away on Saturday, January 3, on the eve of the Atlas Lion’s AFCON 2025 round-of-16 match against Tanzania. The 1976 triumph remains Morocco’s only AFCON title to date.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Ahmed Moujahid, former Moroccan international and Wydad Athletic Club player, as well as to the entire Moroccan soccer family. He wore the Moroccan national team jersey in the 1970s and was part of the team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in Ethiopia in 1976,” wrote the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.

“It is with deep sadness and great sorrow that WAC has learned of the death of its former player Ahmed Moujahid. The club, its president, its members, its players, and its technical and administrative team extend their sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased, his loved ones, and his friends,” Wydad also said in a statement.

This death comes amid the Africa Cup of Nations currently being played in Morocco.
