Africa-Press – Mauritius. Mrs Narainamah Apasamy, born on 20 May 1923, celebrated her 100th birthday, last Saturday, at the Belle Rose Municipal Hall, in Belle Rose. The Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Mr Kavydass Ramano, the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Mrs Marie Alexandra Tania Diolle, as well as family members and friends of Mrs Apasamy were present to celebrate the centennial birthday.
To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity offered to Mrs Apasamy a cheque of Rs 26,203; a gas water heater; a bouquet; the centenarian medal; and a certificate.
The National Solidarity Fund of the Ministry gave her a cheque of Rs 10,000, and gifts were also presented to her by the Senior Citizen Council. Mrs Apasamy was born in Quartier Militaire and later worked as a maid at Couvent de Belle Rose.
She gave birth to five children, four sons and one daughter. She has nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. The centenarian enjoys eating spicy chicken curry and fish curry.
She is lucid, moves around with the help of a stick and wears glasses. Mrs Apasamy does her daily prayers and attributes her longevity to her faith in God.
