Africa-Press – Mauritius. Mrs Bibi Asmoon Emombux celebrated her 100th birthday on Monday 11 July 2022. In this context, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity organised an official ceremony to honour the new centenarian, yesterday, at her residence in Pailles.
On this occasion, Mrs Emombux received, from the authorities, a cheque amounting to Rs 21 836; another one to the tune of Rs 10 000 from the National Solidarity Fund; a bouquet; a centenarian medal; one certificate; and a Pressure Cooker.
The Private Parliamentary Secretary, Dr Marie Christiane Dorine Chukowry, and the Deputy Lord Mayor of the Municipal City Council of Port Louis, Mr. Jean Georges Daniel Augustin, were present on this occasion.
Mrs Bibi Asmoon Emombux was born on 11 July 1922 at Grand Bel Air, Mahebourg. Her father, Mr Abdool Sooky, was a labourer and her mother, Mrs Jaytoone Narain, reared cattle.
Her parents had ten children, five sons and five daughters. Out of the ten children, she has two brothers who are still alive, aged 94 years and 92 years.
The centenarian did not attend school and worked as a labourer in tobacco plantation. Mrs Emombux was civilly married to Mr Mamode Issa Emombux on 04 September 1975.
She gave birth to three sons and two daughters, has three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mrs Emombux is lucid, mobile but suffers from heart disease. According to her, her longevity is a result of her faith in God and her prayers.
