Africa-Press – Mauritius. The official launching of the Multistakeholder Capacity Building Dialogue for Women and Youth in Business was held, today, at the Caudan Arts Centre. This initiative, organised by the National Women Entrepreneur Council, aims at connecting African women entrepreneurs, fostering dialogue and skill development for their empowerment.
The Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Kalpana Devi Koonjoo- Shah; the Director for Gender and Social Affairs, COMESA Secretariat, Mrs Beatrice Hamusonde; and other personalities were also present on the occasion.
In her address, Minister Koonjoo-Shah underscored the transformative strides made via the 50 Million African Women Speak Project, now a real platform, entrusting the NWEC with vital responsibility in Mauritius. Their committed involvement in tailored capacity-building endeavors, she added, seeks to empower women entrepreneurs.
The primary focus, she highlighted, centers on increasing awareness and urging women to engage with the platform, cultivating networking prospects among entrepreneurs, and fostering an atmosphere conducive to collaboration and skill exchange.
Amidst these initiatives, Minister Koonjoo-Shah pointed out COMESA’s crucial role in organising follow-up meetings every three months, showcasing a commitment to continuous improvement and sustained impact.
Rooted in the 2021-2025 Strategy Plan, COMESA’s dedication to regional integration stands on four interdependent pillars, with a strong emphasis on gender integration, she added.
Underlining the importance of an inclusive environment for women, the Minister aligned these efforts with the EU’s goals, aiming for equal access to financial services and resources, further advancing gender equality.
Moreover, she affirmed that scheduled multistakeholder dialogues across member states, including Mauritius, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Kenya, serve as platforms to spotlight the innovative COMESA-European Union collaboration.
The Minister underscored the dialogues’ focus on gender mainstreaming and the promotion of the digital platform for women in business, crucial elements of regional integration and empowerment.
These dialogues aim to showcase the COMESA-European Union corporation’s innovative aspects, shedding light on EU-funded interventions, with a specific emphasis on advancing gender equality through strategic initiatives for women in business, she asserted.
