Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador-designate of Portugal to Mauritius with residence in Mozambique, Mr António Costa Moura, presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, at the State House in Réduit, today.
The Ambassador was accompanied by the Consul general of Portugal in Maputo and the Honorary Consul of Portugal in Mauritius. In a statement, Mr António Costa Moura deemed the presentation of credentials an important moment in the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
He said that the two sides had an exchange of views regarding the priorities of foreign policies and the economic ties between Mauritius and Portugal.
The Ambassador underlined that Mauritius, like Portugal, is a maritime nation and as such, discussions focussed on avenues of cooperation in maritime security as well as the blue economy sectors.
Ambassador António Costa Moura stated that it was his first visit to Mauritius. He added that he would be pleased to travel to Mauritius from Mozambique whenever it would be required so as to strengthen the relationships between Mauritius and Portugal.
The Ambassador is a former member of the Portuguese Government and served as Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Minister of Justice. Prior to his current appointment as Ambassador in Mozambique in March 2021, Mr António Costa Moura was Portugal’s diplomatic representative in the Republic of Finland and in the Republic of Estonia. He is a law graduate and has post-graduate qualifications in European Studies (Law) and in Information Sciences.
