New sponsors and athletes integrate the Horizon Paris 2024 team

Africa-PressMauritius. New sponsors and athletes of the Horizon Paris 2024 Project, were revealed, today, during a press conference held at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex.

The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Stephan Toussaint, the Chairperson of Horizon Paris 2024, Mr Dominique Filleul, and other high officials in the sports field, were present.

The new sponsors presented during the event are: Emtel and 361 as Gold Sponsors, and Go Sport and Le Bistrot du Marché Restaurant as Silver Sponsors. The new athletes who will integrate the team are Brandy Perrine and Remy Feuillet.

A fitness coach and a psychologist, namely Mr Rudy Sassoli and Ms Astrid Tixier respectively, have also integrated the Horizon Paris 2024 team to provide support to the athletes.

Horizon Paris 2024, is a preparation programme put in place by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, in collaboration with the Trust Fund for Excellence in Sports. The aim is to identify potential athletes for their participation in the 2024 Olympic Games scheduled from 26 July to 11 August in Paris, France.

In his address at the event, Minister Toussaint emphasised that despite the current difficult economic situation mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a concerted effort is required from the public and private sectors to attain the set objectives and goals pertaining to the project.

He appealed to the companies that have the means and the capacity to provide support to Mauritian athletes in terms of sponsorship to better help train them so that in return they can bring back Olympic medals and make the country proud.

He expressed satisfaction that the new sponsors have demonstrated solidarity and generosity in these difficult times to help athletes who will participate in the Games. He underlined the need to support them so that they are able to perform to the best of their abilities and bring Olympic medals to the country.

For his part, Mr Dominique Filleul stated that the financial assistance from the different sponsors is used for the purchase of equipment, to send athletes abroad for training, and to provide them with the necessary physical and psychological support.

On that occasion, the Mauritius Olympic Committee presented a cheque of Rs 100,000 to the Horizon Paris 2024 team which will be used for the support of athletes.

About Horizon Paris 2024
The project aims at providing appropriate support, notably to the tune of Rs 1 million per athlete per year, in terms of transport, accommodation and other preparatory needs to potential athletes and will be funded by sponsors.

The Horizon Paris 2024, piloted by a Committee set up under the aegis of the TFES, is chaired by Mr Dominique Filleul, a French retired professional handballer and comprises about twelve representatives from several fields, namely management, marketing and finance as well as representatives of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation and different National Sport Federations.
