Africa-Press – Mauritius. The new structure for the project Horizon Paris 2024, launched in 2020 by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, was presented yesterday at the Côte D’Or National Sports Complex.
The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Stephan Toussaint, the Ambassador of the Republic of France to Mauritius, Mrs Florence Caussé-Tissier, and the President of the Association HOPE, Mr.
Dominique Filleul, were present. The Association HOPE was created in September 2022 with the objective of preparing Mauritian athletes in view of the Olympic and Paralympic Games which will be held in Paris in 2024. The official logo of the Association, its members, sponsors and the names of athletes for the Games, were also unveiled.
In his address, Minister Toussaint lauded the remarkable performances of Mauritian athletes who are breaking records in international competitions adding that this is a sign that elite sport is doing very well in Mauritius.
He underlined that the new structure for the Horizon Paris 2024 provides a better framework for the preparation of the athletes ahead of the competition.
“We are looking beyond the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024 and hope for the possibility of a new structure for 2026 Winter Olympics, he said.
Moreover, the Sports Minister indicated that the Ministry is working on a formula to provide an additional support to the athletes who will participate in the Games in 2024.
As for Ambassador Caussé-Tissier, she spoke of the strong and active collaboration between Mauritius and France in the sports field. “Both countries share great values of solidarity, unity, brotherhood in sports and this is what contributes to a closer connection”, she stressed.
She also highlighted the efforts and initiatives of the HOPE Association to provide the team with the best conditions to support their preparations. For his part, Mr Filleul, thanked all the sponsors for their contribution in shaping the future of the athletes for the Olympic Games.
“The goal is to bring home medals and it is with the contribution and support of everyone that we will succeed”, he said.
It is recalled that the Olympic Games 2024 will be held from 26 July to 11 August 2024 and will see the participation of some 200 nations and 10 000 athletes.
The Summer Paralympic Games 2024, on the other hand, it will take place from 28 August to 08 September 2024 and will include 22 sports and 549 events.
