Newly appointed EU Ambassador to Mauritius calls on Minister Gobin

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union (EU) to Mauritius, Mr Oskar Benedikt, paid a courtesy call, this morning at the Newton Tower in Port Louis, to the Attorney General, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Maneesh Gobin.

During the meeting, Minister Gobin recalled the strong partnership between Mauritius and the EU in various sectors of development, and expressed his appreciation to EU’s unflinching support to the socio-economic progress of our country. He observed that Mauritius and the EU are natural partners given their shared commitment to democratic ideals and inclusive development.

Minister Gobin also seized this opportunity to reiterate Government’s willingness to deepen the partnership with the EU in areas such as environment, climate change, fisheries management, green energy, maritime safety, public health, and the conservation of biodiversity.

As for Ambassador Benedikt, he commended the progress achieved by Mauritius and reaffirmed EU’s endeavour to support the country’s vision of inclusive and sustainable development in addition to addressing other challenges.

It is recalled that the EU is the main trading partner for Mauritius and that both sides are committed to further strengthen commercial and economic ties.

Mauritius is also prospecting investments opportunities from European businesses in sectors like pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, renewable energy, financial services, and education.
