Newly-designated High Commissioner of Botswana calls on Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The newly-designated High Commissioner of the Republic of Botswana to Mauritius, Ms Chandapiwa Nteta, paid a courtesy call, today, on the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Mr Alan Ganoo, in Port Louis.

In a statement following the meeting, the High Commissioner indicated that discussions focused on the expansion of bilateral cooperation and the enhancement of commitments between Mauritius and Botswana in various sectors.

She highlighted the significance of collaboration in critical areas such as education and health, with the aim of strengthening mutual benefits through this strategic partnership.

Notably, the High Commissioner stressed the upcoming benchmarking visit by the Ministry of Health of Botswana to Mauritius in February 2024, a pivotal step towards establishing a Substance Use Disorders Treatment Centre in Botswana, underscoring the shared commitment to advancing healthcare capabilities.

Furthermore, she pointed out the economic potential in the high-end diamond sector, emphasising the mutually advantageous prospects for both countries and the potential for increased investment.

Discussions also delved into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the health sector, already forwarded to Botswana authorities for closer collaboration within the medical domain, she added.

Additionally, she informed that a prospective MoU on cooperation in Information and Communication Technology is in the pipeline, with the exchange of proposals and counter-proposals indicating the imminent finalisation of this technological collaboration.

These steps, she asserted, showcase the tangible efforts of Botswana and Mauritius to strengthen ties across diverse sectors, laying the groundwork for sustained growth and development.
