Africa-Press – Mauritius. With each passing week, the Franklin case brings its share of revelations and discoveries. This is how we learned that a minister would have received a bribe of several million rupees for the allocation of a hunting ground of some 250 hectares next to the Grand Bassin site.

Moreover, this same minister would have been invited to a hunting party in the same hunt. Speculation and rumors about the events that took place during this hunting party are currently inflaming social networks.

We won’t know what really happened that day unless a witness honestly describes how events unfolded. But it is absolutely certain that the image of the government takes a serious blow.

The minister whose name is circulating takes it for his rank too, especially since it seems that several of his colleagues will have taken advantage of this episode to let go of him entirely with the PM.

Indeed, some were waiting for a misstep on his part in order to sink him better, something that many had been waiting for for a while already. Moreover, the rumor of a cabinet reshuffle to mitigate the impact of a potential resignation has been floating around for a few days.

We will see what Pravind Jugnauth will do, but he finds himself in a delicate situation. Between 2016 (the year in which he became PM) until today, he has experienced significant departures: Lutchmeenaraidoo, Bodha, Collendaveloo, Sawmynaden.
Adding other names to this illustrious list today does not mean only one thing: that this government team is out of breath and that it may be facing a tipping point.

Indeed, it has reigned like an end-of-reign scent for a while over this government, and the slightest outing or clumsiness of a minister or a deputy becomes the subject of lively speculation, Steven Obeegadoo has moreover made the cool in the middle of the week during the private meeting he hosted in Curepipe.

It could even be that this government will be forced to go to an early general election if we had a more modernist political culture. But we are in the context that we know, and certain decisions of the PM could still allow him to go up the slope.

In addition, all other things being equal, Pravind Jugnauth can count on strong support that will allow him to have a chance of retaining power in the next general elections: the opposition.
