Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador and Representative of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), Mr Léonard Emile Ognimba, paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, today, at the seat of her Ministry, in Phoenix.

In a statement after the meeting, Ambassador Ognimba said that discussions focused mainly on promoting French language in Mauritius along with other languages to ensure a multilingual and cultural diversity in the country.

He moreover stressed on the need to train the youth in the development of a multilingual environment which will expand new horizons for economic, social and cultural growth.

Challenges faced by Small Island Developing States such as Mauritius including climate change;tourism ; blue economy; and digitalisation were also evoked, he added.

Mr Ognimba is a highly experienced diplomat and expert in international political affairs. He launched his career at the Congo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and joined the Organisation of the African Union in 1984.

Over the course of his career, he has visited and worked in a large number of countries throughout the African continent dealing with issues related to conflict, international legal disputes and human rights.
