Africa-PressMauritius. Assistive devices were handed over, this afternoon, to physically challenged persons during a ceremony held at the Plaine Magnien Social Welfare Centre.

The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, and Member of the National Assembly, Mr Rameswar Doolub, were present.

This joint initiative of the Plaine Magnien Social Welfare Centre and Omnicane Foundation has as objective to help the physically challenged persons to improve their daily routine.

On the same occasion, shields were presented to two laureates from Plaine Magnien namely Ms Lovena Patandin and Mr Jean Fabrice Alex Elliotroppe to honour their outstanding performance during the Higher School Certificate Examinations 2021.

Alucobond panels showcasing landmark projects as well as outstanding premises and halls powered by the Social Welfare division were also unveiled and they would be installed in all halls of Social Welfare Centres.

In his address, Minister Toussaint thanked Omnicane Foundation for this laudable initiative and stated that these equipment will greatly help those people with mobility disabilities in their daily lives.

Addressing the laureates, Minister Toussaint warmly congratulated them and highlighted that they are sources of pride for the region, their parents, teachers, and the country in general.

He expressed hope that they become role models for the youth of the Republic of Mauritius. He further appealed to them to return to the country after their studies abroad and to use their skills, competences and knowledge for the advancement of Mauritius.

For his part, Minister Hurreeram highlighted that Omnicane Ltd is an important partner for the Government and recalled that with the support of the company, a Centre for breast cancer care was opened in Petit Bel Air.

He highlighted that Omnicane is a partner which supports the cause of citizens by engaging in local communities and actively supporting local and national NGOs.

He also congratulated the two laureates for their hard work, perseverance, and determination. He underlined the contribution of parents and added that it is their duty to give each child the means and support that he needs.

The Member of the National Assembly, Mr Doolub, also acknowledged the significant contribution of Omnicane Foundation in helping the most vulnerable and added that the vision of the company aligns with that of Government’s philosophy which is to enhance the quality of life of its citizens.

He gave the example of allocation given to patients who need to go overseas for treatment which has been increased up to Rs 1 million. He furthermore conveyed his warmest congratulations to the laureates and wished them the best for their future endeavours.
