Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister for Rodrigues, Outer Islands and Territorial Integrity, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, provided details to the composition of the Media Trust, this afternoon, in the National Assembly.
The Prime Minister highlighted that Section 5 of the Media Trust Act provides that the Board of Trustees of the Media Trust shall consist of a Chairperson, a representative of the Ministry responsible for the subject of information, a representative of the Ministry responsible for the subject of Finance, a representative of registered associations of Journalists, a representative of the electronic media and four representatives of the press, two of whom shall be Editors in-Chief, elected by the press.
He recalled that the Media Trust, which was inactive since 2006, was constituted in June 2015 and thereafter reconstituted in 2017 and 2019, and is now fully operational.
Prime Minister Jugnauth emphasised that the Media Trust has, in line with its objectives, conducted 18 activities, namely, 10 in 2020 and eight, since January 2020 to date. The activities include training, workshops, seminars and webinars destined for members of the press, he indicated.
