Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, expressed, today, in a message addressed to the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan, Mauritius’ solidarity to the Government and People of the Republic of Seychelles following damage to the Providence industrial area and disruptions caused by heavy rains.
He expressed hope that Seychelles quickly recovers from this disaster. It is recalled that, on 06 December 2023, the Republic of Seychelles was jolted by a devastating catastrophe as an explosion ripped through the depot of the Civil Construction Company Ltd in Providence, followed by flooding in the northern region of Mahé.
The explosion, which caused a ripple of chaos in the surrounding districts and the airport, resulted in at least 100 casualties. A state of emergency has been declared today across the archipelago in response to these tragic events.
