Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Prime Minister, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth was the Guest of Honour for the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the activities of Airports of Rodrigues Ltd (ARL) and Rodrigues Duty Free Paradise (RDFP), yesterday, 11 October 2023, at the Les Cocotiers hotel.
The Head of Government lauded the work accomplished by the employees and the management of these two entities. Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth also announced that for financial year 2022 – 2023, the RDFP recorded a turnover of around Rs 475 million compared to Rs 68 million in 2014.
Profits of the company also experienced a significant increase, amounting to the tune of RS 120 million for 2022 – 2023 compared to Rs 7.7 million in 2014.
Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth underscored that the number of passengers who visited Rodrigues increased from 21,639 in 2021-2022 to reach 114,614 in 2022 – 2023.
He highlighted that the number of visitors in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, was less than 100,000. Concerning ARL’s performance, the Prime Minister underpinned that despite the challenges, the ARL was able to respect its mandate.
He enumerated several flagship projects concerning Plaine Corail airport, including the construction of a new landing strip as well as the acquisition of a new ATR 72-600 by Air Mauritius.
