Port-Louis – to Lead the Country Differently : A New Political Formation is Born

Africa-Press – Mauritius. president of the Union Sociale Mauricienne (USM), in the presence of Dr Vasant Bunwaree, former Minister of Finance. It was an opportunity for him to officially announce the creation of a new political formation, the Rasambleman Pour Lavansman Moris (RPLM).

It brings together, among others, the Mouvman Travayis Militan and the USM. Jack Bismohun pointed out that there is currently a “major social problem persisting in the country”.

This situation, he said, is rooted in the scourge of drugs, the need to recognize meritocracy and the fight against communitarianism. On top of this, the lack of self-sufficiency causes “a serious problem, preventing the population from feeding themselves properly and living a healthy life”.

He hinted that priority will be given to improving the situation of small-scale planters, fishermen and livestock breeders in a future government. “Doing so will put a brake on rising inflation and public debts.

In any case, there will be appropriate measures that will not remain as mere election promises”, he says. To date, notes Jack Bismohun, the current government is targeting young people between the ages of 18 and 25.

“The idea is simple: give them free access to the Internet.

But what about young people aged between 15 and 18? Young people also need to think that the government is targeting young people who will be allowed to vote from the age of 18, and that’s why I say we need to be very careful at this time with purely electoral measures,” he adds.

He was also to point out that there are currently political observers in the country who continue to say that the choice of voters in the next general election will be between “Pravind ek Navin and this is not a new argument, because we who are the real unifiers”.

Dr Bunwaree, for his part, said that the aim of the press conference was to relaunch politics in Mauritius. People, he said, are looking for a new way of governing the country.

“The country is made up of a multiracial population, but there is a permanent anxiety in the country and that’s why we decided to set up a new political formation.

So we chose the color turquoise to represent this political formation. We want to do politics differently,” says the former Finance Minister. “We cannot continue to live in fear in our country.

I’m thinking in particular of the elderly who live alone in the country, and of teachers who are not respected in institutions by pupils. We are also going to go ahead with a system for monitoring residential premises, and at the same time advocate a stable rupee policy”, says Vasant Bunwaree.

He also says that private-sector employees should also be allowed “to participate in the shareholding of companies and set up an ambitious project to provide air conditioning to the population from the seabed as a source of cooling for air conditioners.”
