Africa-Press – Mauritius. The sponsors for Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games which will kick start in July 2024, were presented, on 31 January 2024 during a press conference held at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex, in the presence of the Ambassador of France to Mauritius, Mr Frédéric Bontems, and the President of the “Horizon Olympique Paralympique de l’Élite” (HOPE), Mr Dominique Filleul.
The sponsors are: Gold Sponsor – ABC Banking, and Bronze Sponsor – Côte d’Or National Sports Complex, Small Step Matters, and RT Knits. On that occasion, wheelchairs were also donated to Noemi Alphonse and Roberto Michel.
It is recalled that a new structure called HOPE was put in place by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation with the aim to support potential qualified Mauritian athletes in the conquest of a podium for the next Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In his address, Mr Bontems underlined that it is a matter of great pride for France to welcome Mauritian athletes for the Games. He expressed hope for the athletes to perform brilliantly in the Games and to bag as many medals as possible.
He is confident that the Games will help to reinforce collaboration between Mauritius and France in the field of sports. The Games, he stressed, is an occasion for the youth to widen their networking and compete with international athletes.
For his part, Mr Filleul indicated that HOPE has a key role in accompanying the athletes to realise their dreams and ambitions. It also provides an important platform for the athletes to be well-trained in a conducive environment and have access to requisite equipment, he added.
Mr Filleul pointed out that HOPE will also target athletes and implement programmes for them for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He congratulated the athletes who have already been selected for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and encouraged them to bring a high number of medals for Mauritius.
