President and Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth of Learning calls on Vice-Prime Minister Dookun-Luchoomun

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth of Learning, Professor Asha Singh Kanwar, paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, this evening, at the New Government Centre, in Port Louis.

Professor Kanwar is in Mauritius in the context of the meetings of the Commonwealth of Learning 35th Academic Board and 14th Executive Governing Board, scheduled from 26 to 28 May 2022, to oversee the Commonwealth Executive Master in Business Administration (CEMBA) and Commonwealth Executive Master in Public Administration (CEMPA) programmes.

Some 25 international members from 11 countries would be attending the meetings. In a statement after the courtesy call, Professor Asha Singh Kanwar expressed her pleasure for having met the Vice-Prime Minister, whom she said was a dynamic and inspirational leader among the Commonwealth Education Ministers as she led many initiatives in Mauritius.

According to Professor Kanwar, discussions with the Vice-Prime Minister focussed on collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning pertaining to the professional development of teachers, especially with regards to the changing role of teachers amidst and following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The areas identified for ongoing training for teachers include ICT integration for teaching and learning, conducting assessment in innovative ways, and cybersecurity.

Speaking on the Academic Board and Executive Governing Board meetings which Mauritius would be hosting, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth of Learning stated that academics and vice-chancellors from different countries would be, among others, finalising ten courses that had been revised to reflect the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic
