The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, dwelt on the importance of sharing knowledge for an enriching pathway, today, at an event organised by the Open University of Mauritius (OU), at the Municipal Council of Port Louis, to celebrate the 50 years of Professor Emeritus Ved Prukash Torul’s service to academia.
The Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck; the Lord Mayor of Port Louis, Mr Mahfooz Moussa Cadersaib; the Director-General of the OU, Dr Kaviraj Sharma Sukon; and other personalities were present at the event.
A Manual on Basics of Mauritian Laws, written by Professor Torul was launched on the occasion. A certificate of achievement and a shield of recognition were presented to Professor Torul.
The Professor also made a book donation to the OU. President Roopun congratulated Professor Torul for his dedicated service to students in transmitting knowledge across five generations.
This symbolical ceremony pays tribute to his enormous contribution in the field of legal education, research and labour law, he emphasised. He lauded the Professor for having served Mauritius as well as having shared his expertise to the African continent.
Professor Torul, he added, has provided his guidance and inspired many generations in their professional career and educational path. Minister Teeluck, for his part, shared his personal experience of having benefitted from the mentorship of Professor Torul while being his law student.
He spoke of the latter’s extensive contribution to the academic world and seized this opportunity to congratulate him on his 50 years in service to the academic world.
Lord Mayor Cadersaib extended his gratitude for the continued commitment of Professor Torul to share his knowledge and to be an inspiration for students and the community. Dr Sukon lauded the significant accomplishments of Professor Torul and look forward for his collaboration for the years to come at the OU.
In his note of appreciation, Professor Torul pointed out that his 50 years of service is a momentous occasion which he dedicates to his students locally and internationally.
The 50 years, he said, have been an enriching experience to share knowledge for the growth of students. The Professor extended his thanks to the OU for this memorable event while adding that he will continue to provide assistance to students in the legal field.
