Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Indian Oil Mauritius Ltd (IOML) celebrated its 20th Anniversary, today, during a ceremony held at the High Commission of India, in Ebène, in presence of the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun.
The High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mrs. K. Nandini Singla, as well as other eminent personalities, were present on the occasion. The digital campaign of the IOML to mark its 20th anniversary was launched on the occasion. In his address, President Roopun underpinned the wide support that Mauritius has always received from India.
The presence of well-established Indian companies including the Bank of Baroda, the Life Insurance Corporation and Larsen & Toubro, along with IOML, demonstrates the close commercial consideration that India has for Mauritius, he said.
He dwelt on the close relationship shared by India and Mauritius and underpinned their historical and cultural ties. President Roopun observed that the energy sector is of key importance for any economy in terms of development and social stability.
The implantation of IOML in Mauritius helped the country by providing an alternative source of fuel supply and enhancing competition in the market. He pointed out that after 20 years of presence in the Mauritian landscape, the IOML has invested in the creation of infrastructure and helped Mauritians to acquire knowledge about this technical sector.
According to him, the future of the Indo-Mauritian partnership lies with further cooperation by tapping into other markets and by using this collaboration to achieve the democratisation of our economy.
The President also congratulated the Government of India for having attained an inoculation of 1 billion members of its population against COVID-19. As for Mrs. K.
Nandini Singla, she stated that it is a matter of pride to see an Indian public sector unit celebrate its 20 years of consolidated existence in a foreign country.
This she stressed, speaks for its performance, relevance, and integration in the community and in the country. She emphasised that the IOML which is a leading company in Mauritius and is ranked 14th in terms of annual turnover, is representing India well.
The Indian High Commissioner affirmed that the IOML has been a key contribution to the bilateral relationship India and Mauritius share, and has enhanced their existing profound and deep ties, thus making our relationship stronger.
On that note, she underscored the Governmental support of Mauritius to the IOML as well as its affection to India. Furthermore, she underlined the aspiration of the IOML to increase its retail footprints and enhance its customer services and delivery.
The Indian High Commissioner also lauded the endeavor of IOML in providing assistance to Mauritius concerning the MV Wakashio oil spill by evacuating fuel oil from the breached vessel in adverse weather conditions.
