Africa-Press – Mauritius. In the context of the 2023 National Day Celebrations, the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, visited this morning at Riche Terre, the Filao Group Limited which is engaged in the manufacturing of luxury products in Mauritius since 1975.
The Group Managing Director, Mr Marday Venkatasamy, along with the Group Production Manager, Mr Siven Curpen, facilitated the visit. Speaking on the occasion, President Roopun commended the hard work of the employer and employees and their dedication over the years in the creation of luxury products.
The President seized the opportunity to laud the concerted efforts of women in contributing to the progress and prosperity of Mauritius. He also dwelt on the importance of celebrating Independence Day as it provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of each and every individual to the socio-economic development of the country.
The Filao Group, which started its operations in 1975, was among the first non-textile industry to set up in the Mauritius Free Zone. Employing today more than 675 Mauritian people with a Group Turnover of Rs 600 million, it was the first company to be set up in Riche Terre. Many employees have over 40 years of experience.
The company is engaged in the production of leather watch straps; maroquinerie including wallets, purses, belts, hand bags; office accessories such as writing pads, pen holders, phone covers; articles of displays for jewellery and watch industry including trays, busts, boxes, cases; and inhouse wooden boxes. The products are exported to renowned boutiques around the world located in the USA, China, Europe, Dubai and on the Asian continent.
